5 Most Mysterious Creatures

A hairy apeman lurking in the forest. A dinosaur-looking creature hiding in the deepest lakes. A strange creature that drains livestock’s blood. A creature with a face of a horse and a head of a collie dog. A winged humanoid being. These are just some of the most mysterious creatures that continue to haunt our imaginations.

1. Bigfoot

The Bigfoot is the most consistently witnessed unexplained creature in the world. It also goes by the name of Yeti, Sasquatch, Yowie, and Skunk. These creatures have been reportedly seen in isolated mountain areas and woodlands in almost every corner of the world. The descriptions – from Florida to the North American northwest to Australia – are amazingly consistent: 7-8 feet in height, covered with long reddish-brown hair, large feet, repugnant odor, and a piercing and eerie howl.

2. Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster, also known as Nessie, is without a doubt the most famous aquatic mystery. Despite advanced expedition technologies with complicated electronic equipment, this creature continues to elude scientists. But sightings, while rare, still persist. It is a very large creature with a horse-like head, long neck, and a humped back. If it does exist, many experts suspect that Nessie could be a plesiosaur believed to have become extinct over 66 million years ago.

3. Chupacabra

Chupacabra (literally, "goat sucker") is a major phenomenon of the mid-1990s, although many people had reported sightings in the 1970s. In 1995, farmers in Puerto Rico reported seeing a creature that was killing their livestock by sucking their blood. The chupacabra is said to be as big as a chimpanzee with large red eyes, hairy arms and grayish skin, sharp fangs, and snake-like tongue. It hops like a kangaroo and has quills that run along its spine. Some witnesses say it has wings.

4. The Jersey Devil

The Jersey Devil is a terrifying creature that is believed to haunt the pine barrens of New Jersey. Its legend dates back to the middle of 1700s, but multiple sightings only began in the early 1900s. According to some researchers, over 2,000 people have seen the Jersey Devil over the centuries. It is around 3-4 feet high with a face of a horse and a head of a collie dog, long neck, 2-foot wings, and horse’s hooves.

5. Mothman

In 1966 and 1967, a series of strange sightings happened in Point Pleasant in West Virginia. Hundreds of witnesses reported seeing a winged humanoid being about 7 feet tall with a wingspan of more than 10 feet, gray and scaly skin, and large, glowing, red eyes. The Mothman was said to have mind control powers, liked to eat large dogs, travel 100 miles per hour when flying, and squealed or screeched like an electric motor or a rodent.
