Ascended Masters

The Ascended Masters are known as individuals who have undergone the process of ascension. They are known to have a higher state of spiritual awareness and enlightenment but offer themselves in the service of humanity and look over its spiritual growth. The concept of the Ascended Masters was first derived from the theosophical teachings concerning the Masters of Wisdom or the Mahatmas.

Belief Origins

The belief over Ascended Masters living on Earth may have originated from esotericism. It is the belief that there exists in this world secret societies and schools that possess advanced spiritual knowledge. Such beliefs were considered ancient. The idea was first introduced to the West by the Rosicrucians in the 17th Century.

During the 19th Century, it was further popularized by the ideas brought about by Madame Helena Blavatsky, the founder of the Theosophical Society. She claimed that her ideas were handed down to her based on ancient traditions that came from a group of highly evolved humans that she called Mahatmas. This concept of more enlightened group of humans existing on Earth was further developed by her followers.

Great White Brotherhood

Other beliefs of the Ascended Masters further talk of a whole group of such beings called the Great White Brotherhood. It does not necessarily refer to a race but rather to an advanced level of spirituality that is associated with the color white. Some people who follow such teachings believe that the great past leaders of the world such as Buddha, Mohammed and the Virgin Mary all are a part of this enlightened group of people.
