The Roswell Incident

The Roswell incident pertains to an event that happened on July 7, 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico. The incident involved the recovery of strange materials from a crashed flying object that has since become the subject of mystery, speculation and much discussion. The incident continues to become an intense topic for debate concerning the actual events that happened that was said to be a product of a massive military cover-up.

The Story

On July 7, 1947, a report of a crash landing of an unidentified object at a nearby ranch reached the personnel at the Roswell Army Air Field in New Mexico. Military personnel were sent to the area to check out and retrieve the wreckage. On the next day, people from the Roswell Army Air Field issued a press release stating that members of the 509th Bomb Group have retrieved and recovered what it referred to as a "flying disc" at the reported crash site.

On the same day, the Commanding General of the 8th Air Force group made another statement that the flying disc in question was, in fact just a crashed weather balloon rather than a flying saucer. It was then followed by another press conference that featured the debris allegedly found at the crash site to confirm the weather balloon story. People then accepted the explanation of the military afterwards, and the Roswell incident was largely ignored and forgotten for about three decades.

The Controversy

The controversy surrounding the Roswell incident started sometime in 1978 with an interview with Major Jesse Marcel, a military personnel directly involved with the recovery of the wreckage from Roswell in 1947. Marcel stated in the interview that he believed that the military have covered up the recovery of an alien spacecraft. The news of the interview suddenly spread among UFO enthusiasts and was featured in several documentaries. The incident gained worldwide attention after that.

The controversy of the cover up at Roswell was further fueled by the emergence of other reports from witnesses from the recovery operation. New details regarding military operations dedicated to recovering alien craft and life form came out further gave life to that alien spacecraft recovery at Roswell.

To this day the military has stood by its initial report that the recovered debris from the Roswell crash came from a weather balloon. But many people still believe that the truth may have been covered up all these years, considering the highly secretive and confidential nature that the military has treated the Roswell incident. As of this time, the truth behind the said incident is still shrouded in mystery.
